Social Media Add to toolbox

Back

Social media is a multidimensional communication model, which has completely changed the way businesses communicate with their audiences. It allows users with a Wi-Fi/Cellular/Internet connection to create, upload and share information in different formats amongst each other and to large audiences online.

Businesses use social media to connect with their customer base and market their product/service.

The key differences to more traditional and older methods of one-way communication are:

  • Social media gives all stakeholders a say
  • Meaningful conversation
  • Personal interactions with others
  • To be listened to
  • To help shape useful changes
  • Connect with others engaged in similar activities
  • Form communities based on supporting causes and activities
  • Genuine and relevant
  • Encourages ethical business activities

The way starting out companies can do this is by forming connections with their potential customers through the different social media platforms. This can be done through a variety of ways such as:

  • Creating/sourcing content (blogs such as Word Press, micro blogging Twitter)
  • Video (Snapchat, YouTube, Vimeo, TED)
  • Imagery (Instagram, Pinterest)

The way to gain best results is to have a social media strategy in place and to measure your social media results
