As in anything that you do it is first important to gain scope of a situation to understand what’s required of you.

What standard, style and characteristics must your type of reporting show? As you progress with your business there will be many opportunities for you to show your business plan to potential investors as well as practicing your short 30 second pitch.

You want to be prepared and keep the attention of your audience, be it an investor or a room full of people. You don’t want to be ignored because you didn’t realise the following:

  • Always be honest about the amount of investment money and support you are seeking and have already managed to gain
  • Be fully transparent, don’t hold anything back
  • Listen to the advice the investors give you
  • Ensure you know exactly who your competition is and how you are different to them
  • Don't be arrogant
  • Ensure your idea is scalable
  • Get to know the investor, company and any of their previous investments to understand better how they operate, what their communication style is and what they value
